How Alicia Silverstones Clueless Became A Video Game (For Girls)

Posted by Tracey John on 8/15/08 at 9:16 am.

First there was Dirty Dancing. Then in that location was Princess Bride. The trend of female-favorite movies-turned-games continues with Legacy Interactives OMG High School series of Mean Girls, Clueless and Pretty in Pink.

Last month, Legacy president Ariella Lehrer told MTV Multiplayer that Mean Girls plays like Puzzle Quest, Clueless was elysian by JoJos Fashion Show and that players could choose an alternate ending for Pretty In Pink. With our curiosities aroused, I caught up with producer Don Marshall to give us more inside information on just how these games will work.

But first base, I wanted to recognize how Legacys movie games would be different than other games aimed at girls. I am afraid that a lot of people wHO make games for girls emphasize the wrong piece of that sentence for girls and leave the games part out a short bit, Marshall aforesaid. I think what were trying to do is make solid games with strong, merriment and well-developed gameplay, instead than a smorgasboard or smaller, lesser-developed game elements just making a game pink doesnt make it for girls.

So what else can we expect from Mean Girls, Clueless and Pretty in Pink besides the color pink?

First, we get hold of a look at Clueless (with Mean Girls and Pretty in Pink advent later today)

The Clueless game will feature story elements from the hit comedy but takes its gameplay cues from JoJos Fashion Show. With protagonist Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone, being a fashion guru and a matchmaker, Marshall thought compounding the deuce would work best. Thus, the players goal is to set up her various friends by medical dressing them in the style of the boyfriend theyre trying to attract.

Not only will you be binding up people specifically for cliquey boyfriends, Marshall added, but there are going to be events for each of these different dates, so were trying to echo the movie in the framework of the shopping, fashion and dress up aspect. The team at Legacy is as well working on recreating all of the fashions from the film for the game.

Though these films take in a cult following, I wondered how they were going to bridge the different audiences for all three. After all, Pretty In Pink came out in 1986, Clueless in 1995 and Mean Girls in 2004. That is quite a spread, Marshall aforementioned. What Im trying to do with these is to customize the gameplay to what I think the people who love the flick would be interested in, but smooth use gameplay that volition appeal to everyone. Ultimately, we wanted to come up with a solid style of gameplay thats fun, fun above everything.

Mean Girls, Clueless and Pretty in Pink will feature likenesses from the films and be downloadable for the PC at $19.99 each in December.
